these are the rules
pay attention. Also read the About page.
#1 The first rule is the most important rule...so fucking important it is the only rule with a number. No speeding. Drive safely at all times and obey the regulations for the state/country you are driving through. We do not condone or approve breaking the speed limit. It can result in people being dead and we'd like to avoid people dying as much as possible. That said, if you do decide to speed, that's on you and we eschew all responsibility and repercussions from your actions. That means if you get tickets, kill poeple or die, you don't get to sue us.
Who is eligible to participate?
Anyone over 18 and in possession of a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle you plan to drive can join the Rally.
How many people to a team?
As many people as can fit in your car. If you rent a school bus, you can fill that bad boy to capacity and call that your team.
ANY CAR WILL DO.
You can use your own ride if you don't want to rent a car. Although this is the Rental Car Rally, we fully understand that some of you may be true ballers and have a nice whip you want to use to humiliate your competitors. We welcome that. Bring it. YOUR ENTRANCE FEE DOES NOT COVER CAR RENTAL. You're responsible for getting your own whip.
What do I get for my monies?
A cookie? Our respect? A photo of our offshore Cayman's account? Nah. The registration fee covers your participation in the event, the Rally Package (which is filled with all sorts of goodies like maps and GPS coordinates), an awesome party in Montreal, free drinkin and food at the Montreal mid-point party, and a bunch of other schwag that I don't feel like wasting the time to list here. Also, keep in mind that we work hard to make things as easy as possible for participants to sign up and have a great time with minimal administration effort...we're not making bank on this event.
What Counts as a "car"?
Cars have a motor and wheels. As long as you have at least 2 wheels and a motor, you are good to go. If you happen to have a motorized unicycle, screw you, you can't play. Asshole.
What's up with checkpoints?
There will be checkpoints along the route...you will be required to go to those checkpoints - this will ensure you use some local roads instead of being a little punk and taking the interstate the whole way.
Is it safe?
Well...kinda. If you don't do anything stupid or illegal, you should be fine. But it's not guaranteed, you won't have a support or rescue team nudging you on plus you'll be going to Canada - a completely different country filled with foreigners...some of whom may speak French. This is a real adventure.
Where will I sleep?
That depends on you. We will provide you with a list of hotels, motels, whorehouses and other places you can crash once we arrive in Montreal. Which one you choose is up to you. If you want to go really ghetto, you can crash in your car...or drive a camper.
What if I get lost?
Getting lost will probably take some effort as we will provide you with paper maps and GPS coordinates, but if you find yourself off course or without any idea where to turn, suicide is not the only option. If you get lost, you'll be able to contact us to get directions or help as necessary.
Do I need a GPS to participate?
GPS units are not required for this event. However, we will provide the GPS coordinates of the route and destinations should you choose to bring a GPS with you. The route can "easily" be followed and accomplished by the use of the paper maps we will provide.
We're going to a foreign land, do I need papers and stuff?
You will need the same standard papers required elsewhere: car insurance, registration, etc. A passport might help too...particularly if you want to get one of them fancy stamps in it.
How many people will participate?
We have 60 openings. 60 teams.
What maps and navigation type things do you recommend?
When you register we give you a bunch of maps. The really exciting part comes when resources are outdated, inaccurate or there are no mapsl. For this we set navigation waypoints according to GPS and recommend that you have a GPS device that you are comfortable with. The official Road Book also provides a list of recommended GPS models.
Save for rule #1, we reserve the right too add or change the rules at any time. We will tell you about it though...probably.
